September 2018. Nascent recording group, Golden City Entertainment, arrived at NBCS to kick off the school’s new music club, Songwriters Workshop. The club will be a first semester FlexPeriod option. According to the e-mail blast sent to parents:

Newark Boys Chorus School, under the guidance of Mario Winans, R&B producer, singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist will combine an exploration of music and words in a song writing club designed for all students. Singer song writers are topping the charts, and students will be excited to take their lead and pen their own lyrics. In addition to the choral music being taught during the day, the songwriting after school music club is designed to inspire students to learn and develop a strong musical proficiency. Increase your child’s confidence and ability to express themselves powerfully – skills for life. Develop creative lyric writing & composition skills, advance musicality, perform powerfully and learn from an inspiring professional in the music industry. A unique platform to stand out and be heard.

Golden City principals: Jedd - R&B artist; Samson Rawls - Producer, Engineer, and writer; and Briana Parez - Creative Director introduced our students to the song writing process and demonstrated how the process concludes with a performance for our boys.
