Newark Boys Chorus School charges no tuition, relying on fundraising each year to support its 50 students and 11 staff, said Paul Chapin, who heads the third-to-eighth grade school. Its largest fundraiser — which accounts for 30% of its budget — is scheduled for late April, but it is unclear whether it will be held as planned, he said.
Chapin put his level of concern at “about a 10” on a scale of one to 10, and said he is considering whether the event will be delayed or done virtually.
“All of our budget is through fundraising,” Chapin said. “All of our boys are black and brown. All of them are from low socioeconomic status.”
