Proposed tour: subject to board approval and funding.
Every three years the Newark Boys Chorus School embarks on an international tour. Serving as the “Musical Ambassadors of Newark” allows us to participate in meaningful cultural exchanges throughout the world. For the inaugural world tour in 1973, our students traveled to Rome with Leonard Bernstein to perform for Pope Paul VI. Over the years, the chorus has traveled to more than 17 countries across five continents. This will be our first trip to South America. Through our liaison with the Department of State in Buenos Aires and Santiago we plan to share our music, culture and friendship with students in schools, congregations at churches and the general public.
We will embark on March 7th and return on March 19th. In between we plan to visit Buenos Aires, the Paris of South America; Mendoza, Uspallata, Potrerillos, Santiago, Valparaiso and Vina Del Mar. Throughout the trip our boys will experience first-hand the sights and culture of each area. And through performances at each venue they will share their music with everyone.
The trip is being funded by donations to the school’s 10,000 Conductor Program, our students’ international tour contributions and donations from individual support by friends of the school.
