PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAGN BEGINS

Concert Chorus Launches Sen. Booker’s Presidential Campaign

April 13, 2019. Military Park, Newark, New Jersey. The Newark Boys Chorus School and it’s Apprentice and Concert Choruses helped launch Cory Booker’s 2020 national campaign which highlighted its social justice mission. The rally in Military Park featured speeches, testimonials and music. It had a block party vibe, with plenty of balloon animals, food trucks, and kids blowing giant bubbles, and performances by the Newark Boys Chorus and Malcolm X Shabazz High School Marching Band. Booker's team said the event drew more than 4,000 people.

Music Director Donald Morris spent time chatting with Senator Booker reminding him of the moniker he used to refer to the chorus as the “Music Ambassadors of Newark.” However, in a recent trip to Santiago, Chile the U.S. officials there referred to the chorus as the “Music Ambassadors of the United States.” “Our reputation has grown,” explained Morris, “perhaps, when you become President, our chorus can play a role in your inauguration.

The rally helped energize the Booker campaign and was the first time our students had a chance to attend and to participate in a presidential rally!
